Water prices in Greater Santo Domingo among lowest in the country
Santo Domingo.- Felipe Suberví, Director of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewer Corporation (Caasd), revealed that the cost of drinking water in Greater Santo Domingo is RD$6 per cubic meter—up to 50% lower compared to other provinces. In Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Moca, and Boca Chica, residents pay RD$19.10, RD$12, RD$10, RD$15, and RD$17.42 per cubic meter, respectively. Despite the lower rates in Greater Santo Domingo, only 28% of customers pay for the service.
A comparative analysis showed that Santiago has the highest residential water prices, with commercial and industrial costs reaching RD$27.16 and RD$47.55 per cubic meter. Other areas, such as La Vega, Puerto Plata, and Boca Chica, show varying rates, reflecting a more expensive pricing structure for commercial and industrial use.
Suberví also emphasized the benefits of a newly established monitoring center, which will enhance water distribution efficiency and optimize pumping times for the first time in the institution’s history.
