Marco Rubio to meet with President Abinader today

Santo Domingo.- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to meet with Dominican President Luis Abinader this Thursday at the National Palace, where they will discuss key bilateral and regional issues. Before the meeting, Rubio will also hold talks with Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez and his team at the Foreign Ministry.

A major topic on the agenda is the continuation of the multinational security mission in Haiti. Rubio will then participate in a working lunch with his delegation at the Green Room inside the National Palace.

His visit to the Dominican Republic marks the final stop on his international tour, which included Panama, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. In El Salvador, Rubio reached an agreement with President Nayib Bukele to transfer some of the country’s most dangerous prisoners.

According to Noticias SIN, despite having official accreditation, members of the press have been detained outside the National Palace. Information from the Communications Directorate states that they will be granted access half an hour before Rubio’s scheduled arrival at 11:45 a.m., for security reasons.
