President Abinader honors Spanish historian Feliciano Barrios

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader awarded the Order of Merit of Duarte, Sánchez, and Mella in the degree of Commander to Spanish historian Dr. Feliciano Barrios Pintado for his outstanding contributions to historical research and cultural exchange between Spain and the Dominican Republic. Barrios has played a key role in studying colonial institutions and fostering collaboration between Dominican and Spanish historians.
Upon receiving the honor, Barrios expressed deep gratitude, stating he feels like “an honorary Dominican” and considers the award a gift from a country he regards as his homeland. He emphasized the significance of this recognition, which bears the name of the Dominican Republic’s Founding Fathers, and dedicated it to the Royal Academy of History, where he serves as Secretary.
Barrios, a professor at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and Chronicler of Madrid, is renowned for his work on colonial Hispanic American institutions. He has received Spain’s National History Prize and National Research Prize and is a member of multiple Latin American history academies, including the Dominican Republic’s. His notable publications focus on the governance of the Spanish Monarchy, and he holds prestigious international honors, including the Order of Isabella the Catholic and the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle.
