Santo Domingo — In the last two days, 110 Haitian nationals with irregular immigration status voluntarily returned to their country, supported by the General Directorate of Migration (DGM). During the same period, the institution detained 1,675 undocumented immigrants in interdictions carried out in different parts of the country and repatriated another 1,221 people.
The foreigners who were assisted in their return by their own decision were illegally located in Verón and Friusa. They left in two groups in buses that, in a framework of security and respect, transferred them to the border gates of Dajabón and Elías Piña.
In the recent interdiction operations, the DGM also arrested 239 people in Greater Santo Domingo, 97 in Santiago, 44 in La Vega, 194 in the eastern zone, 34 in Azua, 12 in Barahona, 27 in Puerto Plata, and 30 in Montecristi.
For its part, and in coordinated work with the DGM, the Army of the Dominican Republic apprehended 761 undocumented immigrants, while the Cesfront detained 221 and the National Police 16.
The repatriates were 760 through the binational gate of Elías Piña, 306 through Dajabón, 83 through Jimaní and 72 through Pedernales, where they were handed over to the authorities of the neighboring nation.
The DGM’s actions are carried out respecting human rights and the dignity of immigrants and complying with national legal precepts and international agreements to which our country is a signatory.
Hopefully THOUSANDS more will follow suit.
