Indomet forecasts heavy rain and storms across Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Meteorological Institute (Indomet) has issued a forecast for widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across much of the country this Tuesday. The weather is being driven by humidity and instability caused by a low-pressure system linked to a frontal boundary.
Early morning cloud cover and scattered showers are expected to intensify into moderate to heavy rainfall, especially in provinces like Puerto Plata, Espaillat, Hermanas Mirabal, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, and Hato Mayor. Meteorologists Carla Morales and Samira Lorenzo warn that conditions will worsen throughout the afternoon, with downpours and storms likely in Greater Santo Domingo, the eastern and central regions, and parts of the northwest.
The National Forecast Center has maintained weather alerts and warnings for 13 provinces. Dajabón, Valverde, San Cristóbal, Montecristi, and Samaná remain on alert, while Santiago Rodríguez, Hermanas Mirabal, Santiago, Espaillat, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monseñor Nouel, and Puerto Plata are under warnings due to the risk of flooding and rising waterways.
