National dialogue on Haitian crisis begins June 3

Santo Domingo.- The Executive Committee of the Economic and Social Council (CES) held its first coordination meeting with government officials and representatives of former Dominican presidents Danilo Medina and Leonel Fernández to address the ongoing Haitian crisis. This initial session laid the groundwork for formally convening the CES, following the historic May 14 meeting between President Luis Abinader and former presidents Fernández, Hipólito Mejía, and Medina, where they agreed to pursue a unified national policy on Haiti.

Minister José Ignacio Paliza announced that the official CES convocation would be issued the same day, with formal discussions set to begin on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at the National Library. Given the complexity of the Haitian situation, six thematic working groups will be formed: migration, bilateral trade, border development, national security, international relations, and labor.
