Authorities rescue lost motorized hikers in mountainous region

Santiago Rodríguez.- A group of motorized hikers from San José de Ocoa was rescued after getting lost in the mountains during a journey to the Sabaneta Dam in San Juan de la Maguana, with plans to continue toward the municipality of Sabaneta in Santiago Rodríguez. The hikers lost their way in the rugged terrain, prompting a coordinated search and rescue operation.

The rescue was led by the Prevention, Mitigation, and Response Committee (CPMR), under the direction of Santiago Rodríguez’s provincial governor, Glehany Ascona. The operation involved personnel from the Civil Defense, Dominican Army, National Police, and Ministry of the Environment, who successfully located and retrieved the group.

Following the rescue, the hikers were taken to the provincial government headquarters and were transferred to a medical center for evaluation, as several exhibited signs of exhaustion and minor injuries. Authorities urged the public to plan excursions carefully and notify relevant agencies before venturing into remote or mountainous areas.
