Border supervision aims to ensure compliance with measures and respect for human rights
Pedernales.- In a move to ensure transparency and the effective implementation of state migration policies, the Dominican Republic’s Migration Policy Observatory (OPM) carried out an extensive border inspection from Pedernales to Manzanillo on Friday, June 27. The visit was led by Administrative Minister of the Presidency Andrés Bautista, Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, and OPM President Miguel Franjul, among other officials and civil society leaders.
The tour is part of the follow-up to the 15 migration and border control measures announced by President Luis Abinader. Franjul emphasized the Observatory’s role in verifying how these policies are being enforced on the ground, noting the importance of safeguarding both national security and citizens’ rights.
Officials visited key points along the southern and northern borders—including Pedernales, Jimaní, Elías Piña, and Montecristi—to inspect military detachments, checkpoints, and infrastructure projects. The OPM, established by Decree 215-25, serves as a platform for civil society to observe and evaluate migration policies.
