Abinader to meet with Leonel Fernández to discuss Haiti crisis
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader announced a meeting with former President Leonel Fernández scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode). This meeting is part of a series of dialogues with national political leaders aimed at forming a unified position on the ongoing crisis in Haiti.
The announcement was made during Abinader’s participation in La Semanal con la Prensa, where he emphasized the importance of political consensus on issues of strategic national interest. The meeting with Fernández, leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, follows a recent discussion with former President Danilo Medina, head of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), at the PLD’s National House.
Topics on the agenda include the worsening humanitarian and security crisis in Haiti, the Dominican Republic’s position before international bodies like the UN and OAS, and the urgent need for a coordinated national response.
