Dominican Republic climbs to 61st in Gender Equality ranking

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic has made significant strides in gender equality, climbing 21 positions to rank 61st out of 148 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2025. This improvement reflects a more than 2-percentage-point gain in the country’s gender parity index—the result of targeted public policies and sustained governmental commitment.

Minister of Women’s Affairs Mayra Jiménez credited this achievement to coordinated, rights-based initiatives led by the Ministry, including the Strategic Plan for a Life Free of Violence (2021–2025), the expansion of shelters and women’s support centers, and the advancement of the National Care System.

The report also highlights progress in education, where women now represent 48.28% of primary, 52.01% of secondary, and 65.72% of university enrollment. Additionally, 62% of government scholarships for higher education have been awarded to women.
