Santo Domingo.- Beginning August 4, 2025, drivers who park illegally in the National District will face a steep penalty: a total fee of RD$5,000 per towed vehicle. This initiative, led by the state trust Parqueat_RD, aims to improve urban mobility, reclaim public spaces, and promote responsible parking behavior.

The fee includes RD$1,000 for the traffic violation issued by DIGESETT and RD$4,000 for towing and vehicle custody. This marks the end of the grace period that began on July 1, during which drivers received only warnings. The measure is part of the broader “RD Se Mueve” program by the Transportation Cabinet, which focuses on optimizing traffic and encouraging sustainable transportation.

Towed vehicles will be held at the 27 de Febrero Vehicle Retention Center, located between Winston Churchill and Defilló avenues. The facility will operate with round-the-clock security, surveillance cameras, lighting, and public assistance services.

In tandem, authorities have expanded the network of regulated public parking through Parqueat_RD in strategic areas such as Tetelo Vargas, Carlos Sánchez, Fantino Falcó, Rafael Augusto Sánchez, and DC Parking on Abraham Lincoln Avenue.

“This is not just about penalizing—it’s about building a more organized, safer, and more livable city,” emphasized the Transportation Cabinet. An educational campaign is also underway to inform the public about proper parking areas and reduce violations.
