Five days without water announced in western Santiago

The Indrhi will install two floodgates in canals. Listín Diario

Santiago, DR.- The Santiago Water and Sewer Corporation ( Coraasan ) announced the closure of the Ulises Francisco Espaillat and Monsieur Bogaert canals for five days due to work to be carried out by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources ( INDRHI ).

As a result, the out-of-service aqueducts include La Canela, Cienfuegos, Villa González I and II, which means the sectors dependent on these systems will be without a drinking water supply.

Indrhi will continue the installation of two floodgates on the Ulises Francisco Espaillat Canal, specifically at the La Otra Banda intake in Santiago. These works will also affect the operation of the Monsieur Bogaert Canal.

Olmedo Caba Romano, the entity’s executive director, offered the information after concluding a meeting with the Irrigation Boards of both canals, where they agreed that these systems will remain closed from Sunday, August 3, at 6:00 a.m. to Friday, August 8, at 6:00 p.m.

Caba Romano explained that the works include the construction of the Navarrete aqueduct intake, under the responsibility of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage ( INAPA ), as well as the installation of two new floodgates with their respective mechanisms in the UFE canal, to optimize drinking water and irrigation services in the district.

He emphasized that the intervention will directly benefit the aqueducts supplied through these canals and the agricultural producers who cultivate their entire area.

The service will be out of order due to scheduled work on the Ulises Francisco Espaillat (UFE) and Monsieur Bogaert canals. Both canals will be out of service from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 3rd, until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 8th. Coraasan recommends that users store enough drinking water to be able to carry out their chores during the period in which the work will last.
