New Beata Island dock enhances Dominican border security
Pedernales.- The Dominican Republic Navy has inaugurated a new military dock on Beata Island, located in the province of Pedernales, to enhance patrol, logistics, and support operations in a region considered of high geopolitical importance.
The commissioning ceremony was led by Major General Delio Bienvenido Rosario, Inspector General of the Armed Forces, representing Defense Minister Carlos Antonio Fernández. Also in attendance were Vice Admiral Agustín Morillo Rodríguez, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy; Major General Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, Commander-in-Chief of the Army; and Rebeca Márquez, head of Counternarcotics Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.
Vice Admiral Morillo Rodríguez described the new dock as a key milestone for strengthening the nation’s maritime surveillance, environmental protection, and border security efforts, particularly in combatting drug trafficking and illegal immigration. The facility ensures a sustainable naval presence in the southwestern region, reinforcing national defense and security operations.
