Dajabón.- A Haitian national was killed and a Dominican soldier injured in an unresolved incident near the border wall under construction in the province of Independencia, according to the Dominican National Police. The injured soldier, Private Luis Ángel Ferreira Medina, is receiving medical care, while the Haitian victim has not yet been identified.
Police spokesperson Diego Pesqueira reported that the event occurred late Tuesday night and involved members of the Specialized Corps for Land Border Security (CESFRONT) and a group of Haitians in the area. Authorities are still investigating and awaiting a detailed report from the Armed Forces.
The incident took place near a section of the Dominican Republic’s nearly 400-kilometer smart border fence with Haiti, in a region where the crossing has remained closed due to ongoing instability in the neighboring country.
