Haitian ex-mayor Rosemila Petit-Frére transferred to Haitian authorities

Santo Domingo.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) handed over Haitian citizen Rosemila Petit-Frére, former mayor of Arcahaie and owner of Radio Téle Monopole, to the Haitian National Police on Wednesday after determining she faced no prosecution in the Dominican Republic. The transfer took place at 5:00 p.m. at the Dajabón border, in coordination with Polifront personnel in Juana Méndez, under existing cooperation agreements with Haitian authorities.

Petit-Frére had arrived from Canada at Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata and was initially detained after intelligence indicated she carried over USD $10,000—exceeding international currency limits—and was allegedly linked to illicit activities in Haiti. During her detention, her belongings were inspected, and she was interviewed by Dominican and international security agencies.

Authorities ensured her rights, dignity, and personal integrity were respected throughout the process. The DGM emphasized that the information collected posed no threat to national security but remains under review. The action aligns with Law 285-04 and reinforces the DGM’s commitment to immigration control, public order, and national sovereignty.
