According to a statement, US officials held a working meeting on Saturday with President Luis Abinader, in which the Dominican Republic’s ambassador to the United States, María Isabel Castillo, and the Vice Minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Caraballo, participated.
They also held meetings with key Dominican cabinet officials, including Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, Minister of Industry and Commerce Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, and Minister of Energy and Mines Joel Santos.
The agenda will continue on Sunday with an official meeting with the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Fernández Onofre, expanding the discussions on strategic areas ranging from hemispheric security to trade cooperation and energy development.
In addition, the delegation will participate in a cooperation event at the Dominican Navy’s Naval Club, reaffirming their joint commitment to strengthening maritime security and emergency response capabilities in the Caribbean.
The United States has maintained consistent support for the Dominican Republic by providing specialized equipment, advanced training programs, and institutional strengthening of the Dominican Armed Forces.
“This visit by senior US officials constitutes a concrete demonstration of that commitment and a further step in the joint efforts to guarantee security, stability and sustainable development. in the region,” the statement said.
Security cooperation between the Dominican Republic and the United States is a fundamental pillar of the bilateral relationship, gaining particular relevance in the context of preparations for the Summit of the Americas, which the Dominican Republic will host in Punta Cana next December.
