4.6-magnitude quake strikes San José de Ocoa
Santo Domingo.- A 4.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Dominican Republic on Thursday morning at 9:28 AM, with its epicenter located 7 kilometers from San José de Ocoa at coordinates 18.50°N and -70.55°W. The tremor occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and was felt strongly in the capital, Santo Domingo, as well as in surrounding municipalities. Residents reported brief but noticeable shaking, though authorities confirmed that there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant structural damage.
Seismologists reminded the public that the Dominican Republic is situated in a seismically active region, making moderate earthquakes relatively common.
