Construction advances on Santo Domingo’s Sports Boardwalk ahead of 2026 Games
Santo Domingo.- The National District Mayor’s Office is advancing the construction of the Sports Boardwalk, set to become a centerpiece of the renovated Santo Domingo Boardwalk. This project is part of the broader Santo Domingo Integrated Plan, which aims to transform 1.7 kilometers of the capital’s seawall in its first phase, under the leadership of Mayor Carolina Mejía and President Luis Abinader.
Betsy Luciano, supervisor of the city council’s Infrastructure Department, presented the project’s progress, highlighting preparations for bleachers, beach volleyball courts, and two food courts with terraces, as well as the layout for outdoor sidewalks, benches, and streetlights. Construction engineer Jorge Lerebours detailed plans to expand and renovate the parking lot, and to build a soccer field, paddle tennis court, amphitheater, and skate park.
Mayor Mejía previously announced that part of the Sports Boardwalk is expected to be completed by April 2026, ahead of the Central American and Caribbean Games.
