Surprise police operation carried out in the Maranatha sector of the municipality of Sosúa

Puerto Plata/Sosua.- With the aim of combating criminal activity, strengthening security, and reinforcing community engagement, a large-scale nighttime police operation was carried out in the Maranatha sector of the municipality of Sosúa.

The preventive action was personally led by Colonel Alcántara, the new commander of the National Police in Sosúa, to maintain security and collective well-being in that area.

“We have come to Sosúa to work with great commitment and responsibility on behalf of the healthy community, which is why we will implement actions that are essential to strengthening security and promoting an environment of peace in the area,” said the senior officer.

According to reporter Wellington de Jesús Martínez, during the raid, Colonel Alcántara was accompanied by a strong mixed police team that included personnel from the DICRIM and support from military personnel from the Puerto Plata Air Base.

The police commander of that jurisdiction also took time to talk with young people playing basketball on a court in the area, stopped at a Motoconchos bus stop, and visited commercial establishments in the area.

During the operation as mentioned earlier, a premises where illegal gambling was taking place was raided, the establishment was dismantled, and two people linked to this illegal activity, which is punishable by law, were arrested.

It should be noted that lately, the authorities in that Puerto Plata district have been showing a genuine interest in listening to and understanding the needs of the community with empathy and dedication in order to foster trust and joint efforts toward a more harmonious coexistence.
