Cruise passengers rescued after catamaran sinks in Samaná Bay

Samaná.- A tourist catamaran sank on Sunday in Samaná Bay while transporting 55 passengers from a cruise ship that had been rerouted to the area due to bad weather conditions. Although no fatalities were reported, several people sustained minor injuries, according to preliminary information.

The incident has raised alarm among various sectors, including producer and communicator Iván Ruiz, who called for a full investigation to determine the causes of the sinking. Ruiz noted that the sea was rough and questioned whether the accident may have been caused by structural problems, overcapacity, or the adverse weather conditions that prompted the cruise ship’s diversion.

He also urged authorities to strengthen maritime safety regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future. As of now, local authorities have not released an official statement regarding the event.

No official cause of sinking has been announced, Sweeping the incident under the rug, maybe? No response from Ministry of Tourism. Many of the victims were cruise passengers taking advantage of a day tour from the cruise ship Mein Schiff 1.
