Ambassador Leah Francis Campos delivers first public address in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The new U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Leah Francis Campos, will make her first public appearance today after officially beginning her mission on November 18. She will deliver the keynote address at the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic’s (AmchamDR) traditional luncheon, held at noon in the Garden Tent of the Hotel El Embajador. The event will bring together government officials, business leaders, and representatives from various sectors and will run until 2:30 p.m.

Campos arrived in the country on November 4, marking the end of a four-year vacancy in the U.S. ambassadorship. After presenting copies of her credentials to Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez the following day, she formally assumed her post on November 18 when she presented her official credentials to President Luis Abinader.

Ambassador Campos—nominated by President Trump and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 2025—has pledged to strengthen bilateral relations while safeguarding U.S. national interests in security, regional stability, and shared prosperity. Before her appointment, she served as a senior strategic advisor at U.S. software and AI firm SAS. From 2013 to 2019, she was a senior advisor to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, advising Chairman Ed Royce on Western Hemisphere issues, acting as the lead Republican staffer on Latin America and the Caribbean, and coordinating with the White House, State Department, and National Security Council.
