Santo Domingo unveils mural in honor of U-17 Women’s World Cup
Santo Domingo.- The Mayor’s Office of the National District and the General Directorate of Strategic and Special Projects (Propeep) unveiled the largest mural in Santo Domingo to celebrate the upcoming U-17 Women’s World Cup organized by FIFA. Mayor Carolina Mejía emphasized the importance of supporting young women in sports, stating that the mural not only beautifies the city but also symbolizes the strength, talent, and determination of girls in football.
Located on the wall of the former Santo Domingo hotel along the capital’s boardwalk, the mural spans over 523 square meters and features iconic historical monuments such as Santo Domingo City Hall, the Obelisk, and the Fray Antonio de Montesino Monument. This initiative is part of the “Paseo de Colores” project, which has successfully promoted public art across various provinces.
The unveiling coincides with the World Cup, set to take place from October 16 to November 3, featuring 16 countries. The event showcased a parade of representatives carrying their national flags and included notable attendees, including Elizabeth Mena, CEO of the Women’s Under-17 World Cup Committee, and various officials and sports personalities. The ceremony concluded with a performance by merengue singer Manny Cruz and a fireworks display.
