Dominican Republic defeats Puerto Rico 10-1 to qualify for U12 World Cup 2025

Panama City.- The Dominican Republic secured a decisive 10-1 victory over Puerto Rico, earning a spot in the U12 World Cup in Taiwan for 2025. With this win, the Dominicans remained undefeated and topped Group B. They will now face the second-place team from Group A this Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Rod Carew National Stadium in Panama.

Puerto Rico scored first in the opening inning, marking the first run allowed by Dominican pitching in the tournament. However, the Dominican team responded in the second inning, starting with a single from Milfree Figueroa, followed by a home run by Brandon Báez that brought in three runs. They extended their lead in the third inning when Ángel García scored on a sacrifice fly by Yeiden Herrera.

The Dominican dominance continued in the fourth inning when Ángel García hit a grand slam, pushing the score to 8-1. In the fifth inning, Yeundry Colon sealed the victory with a two-run homer, bringing in Christopher Ayala.

Yoyo Tejeda pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing only one run and one hit while striking out four. The Dominican bullpen, led by Caonabo Cosme and Brandon Báez, kept Puerto Rico scoreless for the remainder of the game.
