Senate approves bills on baseball contracts, public works, and cultural heritage

Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Dominican Republic declared urgent and approved several key legislative bills in a recent session. One major bill regulates the hiring of baseball prospects assigned to the Dominican Republic Summer League, establishing the legal framework for contracts between Major League Baseball (MLB) teams and Dominican prospects. This bill was unanimously approved by 20 senators and aims to facilitate the development and training of players within the Dominican baseball system.

Additionally, the Senate approved a bill to modify Law 118-21, which addresses the completion of suspended public works, including road projects, schools, and hospitals. This modification grants the Minister of Public Works the authority to update the costs of these projects, ensuring their completion. Senators also approved a bill that modifies articles of Law 176-07, which pertains to the succession process for mayors, vice mayors, and councilors, clarifying procedures for replacing local government officials.

In other legislative developments, the Senate approved several cultural and social initiatives, including a bill declaring Casabe as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Dominican Nation, and a proposal recognizing the Procession of the Divina Pastora and the Divina Pastora Church as important cultural symbols. The Senate also passed various resolutions, including one recognizing the contributions of Mary Pérez de Marranzini to social work, and another calling for studies on the reconstruction of key highways in the country. The session concluded with a tribute to the late baseball legend Ricardo Carty.
