FIBA sanctions Dominican Republic and Argentina after AmeriCup brawl

FIBA announced disciplinary sanctions against players and the federations of Argentina and the Dominican Republic after a brawl erupted at the end of their AmeriCup 2025 Group C matchup in Managua, Nicaragua. The penalties include player suspensions, probationary measures, and fines for both national federations.

On the Dominican side, David Jones was suspended for two official games, while Juan Guerrero and Juan Suero each received one-game bans. Ángel Delgado was also suspended for one match but placed on a three-year probation, meaning any repeat misconduct would trigger his suspension along with additional penalties. The Dominican Basketball Federation was fined 20,000 Swiss francs, with half suspended under a three-year probation.

Argentina also faced sanctions: Gonzalo Bressan was suspended for two games, while Francisco Caffaro and Juan Vaulet received one-game suspensions. Coach Pablo Prigioni was fined 2,000 Swiss francs, and the Argentine Basketball Federation received a 20,000 Swiss franc fine, with half under probation. FIBA said it would not issue further comments on the disciplinary measures.

Those Argentine players behaved like sore losers and resorted to verbal insults and name calling against the Dominican players. Very distasteful. Both teams should’ve conducted themselves better.
