Wing Foil and Kitesurfing Heats open competition in Cabarete with Taíno blessing
Cabarete.- The 20th edition of the Master of the Ocean began in Cabarete with a lively Opening Ceremony and the first rounds of competition. Athletes from around the world showcased their skills in Wing Foil and Kitesurfing Overall, taking advantage of favorable winds and wave conditions. Riders such as Makani Andrews, Yannick Mittas, Samuel Pérez-Hults, and José Luis Ciriaco stood out, advancing to the next stages after intense heats.
The day also featured a traditional Taíno blessing ceremony, led by Meri Jane Okani with the participation of event founder Marcus Bohm, communications director Patricia Hiraldo, and international athletes. Offerings of tropical fruits and flowers were made to Yokahú, the Taíno sea goddess, as a symbol of gratitude and to invoke good winds and waves for the competition.


Judges highlighted the high technical level and sportsmanship of participants, describing this edition as one of the most diverse and talented in the event’s history. The evening closed with a celebration at Coconuts Restaurant, while forecasts of steady winds and larger waves raise expectations for Surf Overall, Windsurf Overall, and continued Wing Foil and Kite heats on Day 2.
