Cap Cana to host IRONMAN 70.3 on April 28

Cap Cana.- Cap Cana, a premier destination, eagerly anticipates hosting the prestigious IRONMAN 70.3 competition this coming Sunday, April 28, attracting over 1,000 athletes from both national and international arenas.

Jorge Subero Medina, the executive president of Cap Cana, expressed his excitement, marking the event as a significant milestone as it debuts in the Dominican Republic. He sees it as a pivotal moment to spotlight sports tourism, intertwining it with wellness and diversified tourism experiences.

“We are truly honored to welcome over a thousand athletes along with their families and coaches. This influx will amount to more than 3,000 visitors over the weekend,” stated Subero Medina. He further emphasized, “These athletes will traverse our breathtaking landscape, engaging in swimming, running, and cycling activities, thereby contributing to our local economy through their accommodations, activities, and overall spending.”

The IRONMAN® 70.3® CAP CANA adventure will commence with a 1.9-kilometer (1.2-mile) swim along the pristine shores of Cap Cana in the Atlantic Ocean.

Following the swim leg, athletes will transition to a 90-kilometer (56-mile) bike course, meandering through the picturesque streets and gardens of Cap Cana before reaching the National Highway.

The final segment, a 21.1-kilometer (13.1-mile) run, will showcase the beauty of Cap Cana’s tourist community, culminating at the Cap Cana Marina. The finish line awaits at Juanillo Beach, adjacent to Hotel Margaritaville.

Subero Medina noted that certain access routes within and around the destination will be temporarily closed for the cycling leg of the triathlon. Among these closures include the Coral Highway and an avenue directly accessing the city from west to east, spanning from Higüey’s entrance to Cap Cana’s entrance along the southern road. These closures will be in effect from 3:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
