Former Antinarcotics Capt. denies arrest, drug links

Santo Domingo.- Former National Drugs Control Agency captain Raisa de la Cruz Olivares, named newspaper Diario Libre’s Woman of the Year in 2008, on Tuesday denied she’s being held by U.S. authorities in connection with alleged drug trafficker Ramón Antonio del Rosario Puente (Toño Leña).

"I haven’t been called by the authorities and I attribute the publication (as a way) to hurt me, I have no enemies that I know of," the former captain said and didn’t rule out legal action against outlet acento.com.do, which first reported the case.

De la Cruz, shown on local TV with a nearly 9-month pregnancy, said she’s home waiting to give birth, and that she suffers from high pressure as a result of the information posted online.

"I don’t want any more sensationalism, leave me alone," the former official said by phone from San Juan, Puerto Rico, quoted by elnacional.com.do. “I never harmed anyone and those who feel that I hurt them, I did so because of the work carried out."

She said she’s been living abroad for more than three years, first in Miami and then Puerto Rico.

Acento.com.do, citing information obtained in Puerto Rico, reported that U.S. authorities had detained de la Cruz, on del Rosario’s revelations as part of his plea bargaining for the six-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.
