Dominican troops quietly deployed at Haiti border, media report

Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- Since yesterday Monday the Government has discretely deployed Border Security Corp (Cesfront) and Army troops in the Enriquillo military post located in this southwest border town, which local media report as a precautionary measure in the wake of the arrival of former dictator Jean Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier to Haiti.

A source quoted by listin.com.do said the soldiers assigned to the 21st Company have been restricted to base to prevent any situation in the border zone arising from Duvalier’s surprise visit, adding that the decision was taken once the former tyrant arrived on Sunday

Meanwhile the Dominican-Haiti market was held yesterday with heightened safety measures to prevent the inflow of cholera, and despite the new situation in their country, the Haitians hawked their wares normally in an ambience of calm.
