Police Chief says deportees are registered
Santo Domingo.- National Police chief Jose Polanco today revealed that the country has a registry of deportees, which led to the arrest of several suspects in the murder of colonel Jose Amado Gonzalez, Rubén Soto Hayet and Omar Lantigua, and was instrumental in busting Puerto Rican kingpin Jose Figueroa Agosto’s criminal network.
It said a review of the registry uncovered with Winston Rodriguez (El Cangri), whose data helped in discovering that network.
The Chief of Police spoke when heading to a hearing in National District 4th Collegiate Court to testify as an investigator in the case against the alleged contract killers paid by Figueroa.
Polanco’s statement comes after the president of the Bienvenido Sea Foundation (welcome) –which helps deportees to readjust- had asked the Government to create a registry of those reported mostly from the U.S.
René Vicioso revealed the presence of around 6,500 Dominicans deported from the United States for sexual crimes, mostly against minors, and whose whereabouts are unknown. That group is part of the around 48,000 repatriated in te last 20 years.
