Protesters ask Medina to fire Ethics Commission chief ‘at once’

Santo Domingo. – An anti-corruption protest Tuesday in front of the National Palace by various civil society groups became a request to president Danilo Medina to fire Ethics Commission president Marino Vinicio Castillo (Vincho) at once, claiming he lied to the government and the country in his financial statement.

The protesters, headed by the Tax Justice Movement said Castillo as an official sets a bad example to society, especially the new generations they affirm are disappointed with the political class by the "rotting" seen in public service.

The protesters say in Castillo’s case, Medina has the documents on serious misconduct in a government post, and cite Acento.com.do which reported allegedly important omissions on his real estate ownership and other assets, “an open ethical and legal violation.

Also taking part in the protest were Citizen Participation, Ciudad Alternativa, The Crowd, C3, the Dominican Alliance Against Corruption (ADOCCO), and other entities which form part of the campaign "Paren Eso” (Stop that).
