Santo Domingo.- Former U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Robin Bernstein, emphasized this Friday the importance of having a U.S. diplomatic representative in the country.
“I don’t know why there isn’t an ambassador here; I can’t speak for this Administration,” Bernstein remarked upon her arrival at the National Theater for President Luis Abinader’s inauguration.
She acknowledged the efforts of the current U.S. chargé d’affaires and embassy staff, praising them for their excellent work. “I believe the embassy team and the current chargé are doing a wonderful job,” she noted.
However, Bernstein pointed out that an ambassador plays a crucial role in a host country. “I think an ambassador has the ability to take on more responsibilities and make a significant impact. Yes, I believe having an ambassador makes a difference.”
