Representatives visit Japanese Pear Project in Constanza

Constanza.- The General Director of the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Francisco Guillermo García, visited the Japanese Pear Project in the mountainous region of La Vega province this Saturday. He was accompanied by Hiromichi Watanabe, a diplomat and special envoy of the Japanese Government, who was in the Dominican Republic for President Luis Abinader’s second inauguration on August 16.

During the visit, García provided Watanabe with an update on the project’s progress, which is part of new initiatives aimed at transforming the Agrarian Reform’s governing body. The goal is to successfully cultivate Japanese pears for both local and international markets.

Expressing his pleasure at Watanabe’s visit, García thanked the Japanese Government for selecting the Dominican Republic as the first Latin American country for this Japanese pear production project. He also recalled his visit to Matsudo, Japan, where he led an IAD delegation invited by the city council to study their fruit production techniques in detail. “This visit convinced us that we could successfully develop a Japanese pear project here,” García said.
