President Abinader reaffirms commitment to transparency and open government
Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader emphasized his administration’s dedication to maintaining an open, transparent, and accessible government to bolster democracy and restore public trust. Speaking at the presentation of the Dominican Republic’s Fifth Open Government Action Plan, he highlighted the importance of ensuring that information on public management is accessible to all citizens, stating, “Every Dominican has the right to know how their resources are managed.” He believes that transparency encourages active citizen participation and strengthens the dialogue between the government and its people.
The president outlined several initiatives aimed at promoting openness and reducing bureaucratic hurdles, such as the establishment of the Open Government Multi-Stakeholder Forum, the Zero Bureaucracy Program, and the launch of the EfiCompras RD Portal. These platforms are part of the Fifth Action Plan (2022-2024) and are designed to facilitate access to information and improve public services. Additionally, he announced the creation of the Sixth Action Plan for 2024-2028, reaffirming his commitment to accountability, preventing corruption, and promoting integrity and citizen engagement.
The event also served to recognize international support for these efforts. Sanjay Pradhan, CEO of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), commended the Dominican Republic’s leadership in advancing open government reforms, noting that the country stands out among the 77 OGP member nations. President Abinader expressed gratitude for Pradhan’s contributions to global governance and pledged to continue strengthening transparency measures in his administration. Several high-ranking government officials and representatives attended the event, further demonstrating the government’s collective focus on transparency and open governance initiatives.
