Ucenor raises alarm over poultry sector crisis and egg shortage

Santo Domingo.- The Union of Merchants and Entrepreneurs of the Northeast (Ucenor) raised concerns over a looming egg supply crisis in the Dominican Republic, citing the impact on low-income families during the Christmas season. Félix Manuel Rafael Soriano, Ucenor representative, linked the shortage to excessive egg exports, which have reduced domestic supply and driven up prices.

To address the issue, Ucenor proposed two key measures: a temporary cap on egg exports to prioritize the local market and a government initiative to provide breeding hens to poultry producers, aiming to boost national production and ensure long-term stability.

In a call to action, Ucenor urged authorities to act swiftly to stabilize the egg market and protect Dominican families’ access to this dietary staple. The organization emphasized the importance of balancing exports with domestic needs to safeguard food security and economic well-being.
