Medina wants bigger share of Dominican Republic-China US$2.5B+ trade
Shanghai.- President Danilo Medina on Mon. during his speech at the opening ceremony of the China International Import Fair, highlighted that prior to the new stage of Dominican Republic-China diplomatic ties, trade between both countries already exceeded US$2.5 billion per year but expects that the new initiatives “allow us to equalize the trade balance between our nations.”
The Dominican leader said global expectation is that by 2030 the world expects China will be the world’s leading export power and the first global investor, for which he stressed the importance of establishing relations with the Asian giant.
He said the fair “is an unbeatable space, not only to get to know the products and services demanded by the Chinese economy, but also to promote trade and greater understanding among the dozens of countries present here from the five continents.”
Medina said to achieve balanced trade more Dominican products will be exported to China. “Dominican products are recognized worldwide for their quality, to the point that we are the main exporter of handmade cigars, and among the leading exporters of high quality cocoa, our coveted Dominican rum, as well as tropical fruits and vegetables, such as the pineapple, avocado and banana, among others.”
