Decree paves way to mine rare earth in the Southwest

Possible rare earth deposits near Cabo Rojo
Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Monday established the “Ávila Mining Fiscal Reserve” to evaluate and exploit potential rare earth deposits directly by the State, through special contracts in Pedernales province.
Executive order 430-18 includes 14.9 million hectares with established and detailed boundaries and coordinates, “which form the polygon corresponding to the area of possible exploitation.”
It also establishes a period valid for 10 years from the publication of the Executive Order.
