Dominican Republic promotes investment opportunities at business forum in Beijing
Beijing, China.- The Dominican Republic hosted a business forum in Beijing, China, aimed at promoting investment and cooperation opportunities between the two nations. Organized by the Dominican Embassy in China, the event gathered dozens of Chinese companies and reinforced bilateral economic ties, seven years after the establishment of diplomatic relations.
During the forum, ProDominicana’s executive director, Biviana Riveiro, and Dominican ambassador to China, José Julio Gómez, emphasized the country’s economic strength as the largest economy in the Caribbean and one of the fastest-growing in Latin America, with projected GDP growth of 4.0% in 2025 and 4.8% in 2026. They highlighted Dominican exports to China, which reached US$325.8 million in 2024—an increase of 34.9% over 2023—driven by copper ores, raw tobacco, and medical instruments. Between January and July 2025, exports totaled US$187.1 million, consolidating China as a key trading partner.
Riveiro noted that cooperation with China has already generated over 10,000 jobs through Chinese companies operating in Dominican free trade zones. Looking ahead, the country aims to expand its free zones, create 100,000 new jobs, double its GDP, and reach a per capita income of US$22,000 by 2036. The forum also showcased opportunities in tourism, renewable energy, and technology, positioning the Dominican Republic as a strategic hub for Chinese investment in the Caribbean.
