Health Cabinet and Ministry affirm commitment to dialogue with Medical Association

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government, Health Cabinet, and Dominican Medical Association have reaffirmed their commitment to improving the country’s health system through dialogue and collaboration. Health Minister Victor Atallah highlighted the government’s dedication to addressing immediate challenges in the health sector while acknowledging that broader demands require a favorable budgetary environment. Key measures include upgrades to hospital infrastructure, provision of medical equipment, reduced health insurance contributions for pensioners, increased incentives for intensive care and emergency physicians, and financial support for the Institute for Social Security and Protection of Physicians (IPSS). Over 90% of the association’s demands have been met through these initiatives.

Atallah emphasized that significant health sector reforms remain a priority under President Luis Abinader’s administration, led by Vice President Raquel Peña and the Health Cabinet. However, he called for patience, stating that substantial improvements take time and resources. The minister urged both medical professionals and the public to trust the government’s efforts, as any salary increases or further reforms without sufficient funding could jeopardize economic stability.

Collaboration remains central to the Ministry of Health’s strategy. Open dialogue with the Dominican Medical Association continues as the government seeks sustainable solutions to strengthen the health system.
