Deputies won’t “invite” Ethics chief to clarify financial statement
Santo Domingo.- The lower Chamber yesterday rejected deputy Francisco Matos’ proposal to call National Ethics Commission president Marino Vinicio Castillo to explain alleged violations in his financial statement .
The lawmakers called the proposal "unjustifiable," since in their view, it’s based on some people or media’s allegations of violations.
The deputies, who accepted a Chamber Ethics Commission report calling the invitation for Castillo, “inappropriate,” noted however that even if its commissions can legally cite government officials to testify, they should comply with the principles of separation of powers.
"In the present case, this draft resolution is based on alleged violations attributed by some people or media to the Ethics Director, in the financial statement during his confirmation," says the report.
