Dominican bishop: Catholic Church scandals a “spike driven by the Devil”

Santiago.- The Santiago Diocese archbishop on Thursday called the Catholic Church’s latest scandals a "spike driven by the Devil" in its bosom and asked forgiveness for sins by its priests, women and prelates. "We are not perfect."

Ramón Benito de la Rosa Carpio made the statement during a mass at Santiago’s Cathedral to mark the Diocese’s 60th anniversary, in a ceremony which brought together most of the country’s bishops

De la Rosa asked God’s forgiveness "for all we haven’t done as a Church in 60 years and for all the times we’ve let our ego grow, for denying and letting the Holy Spirit drown."

The senior prelate vowed however, that the Church will deal with all obstacles and the gates of hell will not prevail against it and regarding Santiago, “it can be said that it has been established forever.”

“It’s always been said that the Church has to purge itself of the spike and will always be persecuted and that shouldn’t puzzle us.”
