Authorities order the arrest of agents involved in the death of a minor in Santiago
According to the General Directorate of the National Police, all of the police officers and civilians involved in the incident that killed a minor in Santiago have been arrested as part of the investigation. The police confirmed that the tragedy, which occurred on Mella Street and the corner of Las Carreras, during the Carneval of Santiago, grieves society in general, particularly the minor’s family, friends, and relatives. Following the unfortunate incident, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then, General Director of the National Police, assured that he or those responsible would face justice.
In a press release, he stated that a commission of senior officers, led by Police Inspector General Pedro Cordero Ubri, has been appointed to travel to Santiago and, in collaboration with the Public Ministry, conduct investigations to determine the true circumstances surrounding the event. The institution of order assured that the appropriate measures would be implemented based on the findings of the investigations.
It also states that a delegation of the investigative commission has already arrived in Santiago to conduct interviews and surveys. As the investigation continues, more information about the case will be released on Monday morning.
The police were sent to the location because of a noise complaint. A scuffle between police and civilians happened. The boy of 11 years who was nearby, died of a gunshot coming from one of the policemen during the scuffle. Why in heaven’s name do the police have to draw a weapon in response to a noise complaint?
