Rains damaged some crops; Others save

Cibao – The recent rains and winds indirectly caused by Cyclone Rafael and the trough that passed through the north of the island caused partial damage to national production. However, as the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz, explained yesterday, it will benefit planting various crops.

Cruz pointed out that the floods affected rice fields in the Northwest Line, and the winds knocked down hundreds of banana farms in Tamboril and other areas of Cibao. Although the losses have not yet been quantified because the technicians are conducting a survey in the affected areas, Cruz said that they have heavy equipment working on the rapid recovery of the damaged properties and will help the producers who were affected.

Cruz pointed out that “this is perhaps one of the most important quarters of planting… We are in the last stage of the year, and if we do not plant now, we will have problems in the first months of next year. The rains will balance and pay for those damages. We hope that things will remain as they are going and that we can continue to plant and increase production.”
