President Abinader accepts Milagros Germán’s resignation as Minister of Culture

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has accepted the resignation of Milagros Germán as Minister of Culture, acknowledging her significant contributions to the country’s cultural development. In a statement shared via his WhatsApp channel, the president highlighted Germán’s achievements during her tenure, emphasizing her dedication to strengthening the Dominican Republic’s cultural identity. The resignation letter, dated December 18, was met with Abinader’s respect and gratitude for her work.

Among Germán’s accomplishments, the president noted the modernization of cultural awards, including the creation of six new awards and the relaunch of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña International Award. She also promoted Dominican culture abroad by establishing four offices of the Dominican Directorate of Culture Abroad, which facilitated a variety of cultural activities. Additionally, Germán revitalized the relationship with Berklee College of Music, leading to the homologation of credits for the National Conservatory of Music, and consolidated the Book Fair as a national cultural brand, with over 80 titles published under the National Publishing House.

President Abinader praised Germán’s transition from the private sector to public service, calling it a courageous act of commitment to the nation. He commended her leadership, integrity, and passion for promoting the country’s cultural heritage, describing her tenure as a benchmark for future administrations. As Germán returns to the private sector, the president expressed confidence that she would remain a valuable ally in advancing the Dominican Republic’s future.
