La Romana.– The deputy director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Eddy Olivares, confirmed that at least two people have died and one remained trapped alive under the rubble last night after the collapse of a building that occurred around noon yesterday in the Villa Nazaret sector of La Romana.
“At 9:10 we recovered one of the bodies. We are in contact with one of the victims who is still alive and our teams are working on his stabilization,” Olivares told the media on Friday night.
The official reported that rescue operations are being carried out simultaneously, managing to confirm the presence of another deceased in the rubble. “We have another body, apart from the person with whom we maintain eye contact,” he said.
Authorities have used drones and unique cameras to assess the situation and have announced the deployment of canine units to ensure that no more victims are trapped.
Regarding the other people affected, Olivares pointed out that of the five victims, two are stable and receiving care in a hospital.
Regarding the debris removal, he indicated that while the rescue operation lasts, the work will be carried out with great care to guarantee the safety of the victims and emergency personnel. “At the moment, the area remains under evaluation to complete the search process and ensure that nothing is left pending,” he said.
