Police say mother of missing child was “immobilized”, not detained

NP reports that as part of the investigative process, several raids were carried out
Jarabacoa – The National Police denied this afternoon that the young Carolina Vargas Ureña, 28, mother of the child Roldany Calderón, 3, missing since last Sunday, has been arrested as part of the multiple investigative procedures deployed to respond to the case.
The institution of order indicated that during the course of today simultaneous raids were carried out in different communities of Jarabacoa, including Hato Viejo, where the parents of the missing child reside.
The actions are part of the proceedings carried out as part of the investigations led by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the jurisdiction of children and adolescents, to respond to the case.
The Police indicated that, at the time of one of the raids, there was a situation where the mother of the young Vargas Ureña and other relatives tried to prevent the action of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, assigned to the jurisdiction of children and adolescents.
It was in that circumstance that the young Vargas Ureña joined her relatives, who used a bat and a pipe, for which she had to be momentarily immobilized (handcuffed) until the process was concluded without major setbacks.
The institution of order specified that no one was arrested during the interventions.
With regard to minors, they are under the protection of the competent authorities.
