Kenya and Dominican Republic sign agreement to support Haiti mission troops
Santo Domingo.- Kenya and the Dominican Republic signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to provide medical evacuation and repatriation assistance for Kenyan police officers deployed in Haiti as part of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), led by Kenya. The agreement comes amid the deepening crisis in Haiti and reflects growing international collaboration to support stabilization efforts in the Caribbean nation.
At a press conference in Santo Domingo, Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi and Dominican Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez announced the agreement and emphasized the importance of safeguarding personnel on the ground. Álvarez noted that 20 MSS members have already received medical treatment in the Dominican Republic, describing it as a demonstration of “genuine commitment” to those risking their lives for regional stability.
Mudavadi, on a two-day visit to the Dominican Republic, praised the country’s vital role in supporting intelligence-sharing and logistics for the MSS. He called for continued collaboration between both nations to ensure the mission’s success in restoring security and order in Haiti.
