Concern grows over Haitian occupation in Los Haitises

Santo Domingo.- Elías Wessin, a national deputy from the PQDC party, has called on President Luis Abinader and former presidents Leonel Fernández, Danilo Medina, and Hipólito Mejía to address the illegal occupation of protected areas in Monte Plata by Haitian nationals. He specifically cited the Pino de Pilancón area within Los Haitises National Park, warning of serious environmental damage due to unauthorized settlements on hills and mountains.

Wessin also raised concerns about armed gangs in Haiti, whose violence is pushing people toward the Dominican border. He urged that an upcoming high-level meeting between current and former leaders result in concrete strategies to prevent a potential mass migration.

The deputy emphasized the need for stronger immigration and environmental policies to protect national sovereignty and preserve the country’s natural resources.
