President Abinader honors dictatorship victims with minute of silence on Freedom Day

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader participated in the observance of Freedom Day on May 30th, a significant date in Dominican history that honors the victims of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo’s dictatorship and those who sacrificed their lives for democracy.

Through an official Instagram post, the president emphasized the importance of remembering these individuals and called for a nationwide minute of silence in their honor. He wrote, “Today we observe a minute of silence throughout the country. In memory of the victims of the dictatorship and in tribute to those who gave their lives for freedom and democracy.”

Freedom Day marks the anniversary of Trujillo’s assassination in 1961, a pivotal event that began the dismantling of one of Latin America’s most oppressive regimes
