President Abinader supports Trump’s call for peace amid U.S.-Iran conflict

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader expressed agreement on Monday with a recent social media post by former U.S. President Donald Trump, in which Trump called for efforts to “work for peace” amid escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran. “I agree with that tweet,” Abinader stated briefly during his regular media briefing at the National Palace.

The comment comes shortly after the U.S. launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities—Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—on Saturday, following rising hostilities with Israel since June 13. Trump later confirmed the attacks and emphasized their goal was to eliminate Iran’s uranium enrichment capabilities, labeling the nation as the “world’s number one state sponsor of terror.”

Abinader’s statement also coincided with a strong message from the U.S. State Department urging Latin American countries to take a clear stance on the conflict ahead of the 55th OAS General Assembly in Antigua and Barbuda. In response to concerns about the potential impact on the Dominican Republic, Abinader said the situation is being closely monitored and reassured that oil supplies remain stable, as the country imports primarily from the United States under the WTI benchmark.
